FAQs about Storage Containers in London

In the bustling city of London, storage containers are becoming increasingly popular for businesses and individuals alike. They offer a secure, durable, cost-effective solution for various storage needs. In this article, we will answer some frequently asked questions about storage containers in London.

Security of Shipping Containers

Constructed from robust corrugated steel, shipping containers offer unparalleled security. Enhanced with additional locks, tamper-proof seals, and GPS tracking provides a formidable barrier against unauthorised access. For heightened security, options like surveillance cameras, motion sensors, and alarms can be installed.

Durability of Shipping Containers

Shipping containers are engineered for extreme durability, crafted from resilient steel and equipped with lockable doors for added security. They are designed to resist harsh weather conditions, making them ideal for long-distance transport and are fireproof, waterproof, and rodent-proof.

Optimal Container Size Selection

Selecting the right container size depends on your specific storage or transportation needs. A 20-foot container suffices for smaller items, while a 40-foot container is more suitable for larger goods. Consult with a shipping expert to determine the most appropriate size for your requirements.

Shipping Container Costs

Container prices vary based on type, size, and condition. On average, a used 20-foot container costs around £2,000, while a new 40-foot container may be priced at about £3,500, with variations depending on features and condition.

Capacity of a 20ft Container

A 20ft container can comfortably accommodate up to 10,000 kg of goods. It's spacious enough to house a vehicle, furniture from a 3-bedroom house, or 600 medium boxes, including large furniture items and appliances like sofas, tables, refrigerators, and washing machines.

Fridge Storage in a 20ft Container

A 20ft shipping container can typically hold up to 12 standard-sized refrigerators. The actual number may vary depending on fridge dimensions and other contents within the container.

Inadvisable Storage Items

Storing hazardous materials like chemicals, acids, or flammables in shipping containers is not recommended. Food products and perishables are also unsuitable due to potential temperature-induced spoilage.

Shipping Containers vs. Wooden Sheds

Shipping containers offer superior advantages over wooden sheds regarding security and durability, owing to their steel construction. Unlike wooden sheds, they are fireproof and waterproof, making them a more reliable storage option.

Legality of Backyard Storage Containers in London, UK

Placing a shipping container in your backyard in London, UK, for storage purposes is legal but may require planning permission from your local council. Note that containers are not approved for use as permanent dwellings without council consent.
